You’ve booked your flight. Studied the subway system. Planned your poses atop the Empire State Building. At Arlo SoHo Hotel NYC we understand the excitement that comes with planning a NYC trip. It’s an amazing city and you want to fit in as many activities as possible. Before you step foot in Manhattan, we do recommend understanding a few things that will help you enjoy our city to the fullest.
- Give yourself extra time. We have an amazing transportation system with Uber, taxis, and the subway all working in concert. It’s a great system. However, if you’re on a deadline to meet that dinner reservation, give yourself extra time. Subways are often delayed; Uber drivers encounter traffic. Take an extra 20 minutes to spare yourself some anxiety.
- Hail a taxi like a pro. Movie characters grab a taxi like a magician, but the reality is a little more complicated. First, watch for the taxi light. If the light is on, they’re available, otherwise it’s occupied or done for the day. If you see a taxi, then be sure you raise your arm high and try to make eye contact, so the driver is clear on your intentions.
- Explore by neighborhood. Every Manhattan neighborhood has its special charms. To save time and get the best sense of the city, visit one neighborhood at a time. Explore a museum, then grab a bite in one of the best reviewed eateries, and cap it off with a cocktail at a well-reviewed bar. You’ll maximize your transportation time and get a deeper experience with the city.
- Don’t stop in the middle of the sidewalk! At Arlo SoHo Hotel NYC, we know it’s hard to avoid stopping for a pic of the Chrysler building or Grand Central Station. However, you might get bowled over by some locals. Act like you’re on a highway and pull off to the side to check out the sights, instead of slamming on the brakes unexpectedly.
